Room photos show beds and bathrooms, but not how restful a stay really is. That is exactly what the 4-star superior Landhotel Kallbach in Germany’s Eifel region wanted to show its guests: peace, nature and personal luxury, before they even book. Together with Pathfinder Studios, the hotel created a film that is told from the perspective of a guest, needs no voice-over and was shot while the hotel was open, without disturbing guests. Today it is the hotel’s central marketing tool on its website and social media.
Many hotels face the same question: how do I show online what guests experience at my hotel? This case study shows how Landhotel Kallbach answered it.

Who is Landhotel Kallbach?
Landhotel Kallbach is a 4-star superior hotel set in the heart of the Eifel countryside. It combines fine dining with an exclusive spa and caters to discerning guests looking for a real break: authentic nature experiences and personal hospitality instead of anonymous luxury.
What challenge did Landhotel Kallbach face?
The hotel wanted to show discerning guests what awaits them: not just beautiful rooms, but the feeling of a real break in nature. Classic hotel photos and virtual tours don’t convey exactly that. At the same time, the shoot could not disrupt the hotel’s daily operations:
- Guests should be able to enjoy their stay undisturbed.
- Staff should not be given extra work.
- The historic building offers little space, and the Eifel weather is unpredictable.
How does a hotel film show what a stay feels like?
Instead of filming the hotel room by room, the film lets viewers experience a stay: through the eyes of a guest, with light, details and music. Future guests picture themselves in her place.
Guests see themselves in the film
The story is told from the perspective of a single guest, played by a professional actress. This allowed us to stage undisturbed moments of relaxation without filming real guests or involving hotel staff.
A shoot that doesn’t disrupt the hotel
We split the shoot into three blocks: scenes with the actress, undisturbed detail and food shots in the restaurant, and nature and drone footage in the morning sun. There was a plan for every kind of weather, and the detail shots could be slotted in flexibly. The hotel kept running as normal.
Peace you can feel
The film deliberately does without a voice-over. Music, sound design and images convey the calm of the hotel directly. This feels more relaxed than any advertising copy and works for international guests without translation.
Our job was to film a feeling: the absolute calm this hotel radiates. You can’t do that with wide shots of rooms. You can only do it through light, details and a protagonist who makes that feeling tangible for the viewer. We didn’t document the hotel; we portrayed its soul.
– Tom Wolt, Director
This project was a puzzle of unpredictable weather, a hotel in full operation and a historic building. The key to success was a modular shooting schedule. We had plans for sunny exterior shots, for interior shots in the rain and for detail shots that we could slot in flexibly, without disrupting the schedule or the guests.
– Ivy Thomas, Producer
What did Landhotel Kallbach gain from the film?
The hotel now has a marketing tool that makes its most important promise visible: a break in nature. The film runs on the website and on social media, conveys the standards of a 4-star superior hotel and speaks to its upscale audience on an emotional level.
Which hotels and restaurants is a hotel film right for?
An emotional hotel film is worthwhile for any hotel or restaurant whose strength is an experience that is hard to show in photos or text. Typical examples:
- Country hotels and spa hotels
- Boutique and design hotels
- Fine-dining restaurants
- Holiday resorts and conference hotels in the countryside
- Tourist regions and destinations
The film is used on the hotel’s own website, on social media, in newsletters and on booking platforms that allow videos.
What hotels and restaurants can take away for their own film
- A feeling sells, not the size of the room. Guests book an experience. The film should make it tangible instead of listing rooms.
- A protagonist creates closeness. Viewers experience the hotel through her eyes and put themselves in her place.
- Plan in modules. Splitting exterior, interior and detail shots into blocks keeps you flexible with the weather and guests.
- Sometimes less text is more. Without a voice-over, a film feels calmer and works internationally without translation.
