Industrial Film Aerial Footage – New Perspectives for Your Success

Industrial films and aerial footage simply belong together – not only outside but inside too. Find out how drone footage shows off your halls and machines to best effect.

Drones open up completely new perspectives in industrial films

Have you ever wondered what drone footage inside your industrial halls would look like? That’s right – INSIDE your halls. Most halls are big enough for a drone to capture unique perspectives without any problems: of your machines, vehicles and workers. This article shows how and why drone footage inside your halls enhances an industrial film.

How to unlock the true potential of drone footage

Drone footage from the air is great, no question. But believe me when I say that drone footage inside your halls is simply amazing.

In industrial films in particular, drone footage is traditionally used to present the company from the air. Chances are you already have an aerial shot like this of your company. After all, it works perfectly for your website, social media and of course as a picture in the entrance hall. It simply shows the size of your company.

But now imagine the drone flying through your halls. Machines can be filmed from above from unique perspectives, giving a very special impression of the size of your facilities. Creative camera flights mean drone footage can add a lot of value to your industrial film.

An employee walks through your halls, looks around and perhaps interacts with colleagues or machines – followed by a drone the whole time. The completely different perspective alone makes this a more interesting shot. Combined with close-ups from the ground, this lets you film a creative scene that is entertaining and special.

But drone footage inside halls offers an even more important benefit for your industrial film.

Why drone footage says more than words

Drone footage visualises things that can very quickly sound arrogant when put into words. You don’t need to say that your machines are worth millions of euros – just show it. You don’t need to say that your processes are the most efficient and professional of all your competitors – show it. And drone footage can visualise these important qualities better than shots from the ground.

Showing scale

You have a whole hall of the best machines, and thanks to a drone you can show all of them. Unlike shots from the ground, drones can give a much better overview of the entire hall and its machines, and so show the size of your hall to best effect. Drones also offer another advantage for machines with light barriers: here, the film production company has the unique opportunity to bring a moving camera closer to the machine.

Technology

Showcase your technological edge with drone footage. Dynamic and unique drone perspectives are especially good at conveying qualities such as innovation, quality and professionalism. Thanks to drone footage, your technology gets the prominence it deserves in the industrial film.

Efficiency

A bird’s-eye view lets you show the efficient interplay between your machines, employees and work vehicles – for example when many automated processes take place in your hall, or when employees move products from location A to location B.

An overview of impressive drone options for industrial films

Visualising process flows

Bird’s-eye shots can show process flows in your machine park in a particularly clear and appealing way. For example, the drone can fly from station to station to show the individual production steps. Or show the coordinated routes of your vehicles to present an optimised process workflow.

Showing machines from new perspectives

Presenting your machines with the best possible footage is also a goal of the industrial film – and that is where drone footage is a must. The new perspectives stand out in the industrial film and create impressive shots of your machines.

Dynamic shots with gimbal and drone

Gimbals stabilise camera moves on the ground to create smooth, clean shots with lots of movement. That makes them the perfect match for drone footage, since drones do exactly the same in the air. Combining gimbal and drone leaves room for many creative options to make the industrial film dynamic and impressive.

Time-lapse

Time-lapses are heavily sped-up shots in which movement looks particularly good. Thanks to drones, time-lapses can not only be shot from other perspectives – camera moves within the time-lapse sequence also become possible. A shot like this can greatly enrich your industrial film and, for example, convey the size of your company premises or production halls.

Everything companies need to know about industrial films

The advantage that makes the drone truly valuable for an industrial film

These days we almost always pack the compact drone when we head to an industrial company, because the drone has a very special advantage that makes it an important tool for us.

Many industrial companies have machines with safety zones. That means no camera operator may be in that area while the machine is running. As a result, we always had the problem of only being able to film from a certain distance. But of course we always wanted to get as close to the action as possible, so that you can really see something in the footage.

The solution: a drone. Drones can go beyond the safety boundary. Thanks to their compact size and the use of zoom lenses, machines can be filmed in operation and even details of the machines can be captured.

Why not every film production company is allowed to film with drones inside halls

Drone footage inside halls is a special case for insurers. A standard drone insurance policy for film production companies does not cover damage indoors. That is why we, for example, have taken out separate insurance that covers damage in industrial halls.

Of course, one could say that such an incident is unlikely, thanks to drones’ intelligent obstacle-detection sensors and when professional drone pilots are flying – but you should never take the risk.

So it is best to have such drone footage shot only by film production companies that can show proof of such insurance and already have experience filming with drones inside halls.

What industrial film drone footage can look like – an example

In this industrial film for DTMT, a large number of drone shots were used to film machines from special perspectives. Often, the drone was the best way to get closer to the machines. At the same time, it gave us dynamic shots with lots of movement – whether circling around an employee operating a machine or flying backwards to reveal a large machine.

The various halls could also be shown impressively from an elevated view with the help of the drone.

Industrial film: examples and services

Conclusion

Drone footage of industrial and production halls, or aerial footage of your premises, can greatly enrich your industrial film. Drone footage inside your industrial halls in particular clearly sets you apart from your competitors. Overhead shots of your machines, gliding camera moves or time-lapse shots can be the images that help make your industrial film a success.

Make sure your film production company has the right insurance and trained staff – then nothing stands in the way of aerial footage for your industrial film!
